Rear window tint

Be2lose

In title only.
My Mark had the rear windows tinted by the dealer in 98. It is a poor job to begin with and now so cloudy I can't make out the vehicles behind me. Has anyone had experience removing the tint without damaging the rear window defroster? The local glass/tint shop says no guarantee.

I think that that is gonna be the answer you hear from everyone. I had one of my cars tint let go and I took it upon myself to remove it. I can tell you I wish I never started it as it is a real B-ll buster and messy. I'd leave it to a pro and pray. My rear didn't work when I got the car so I felt I had nothing to loose at the time. Maybe if I had a working one I would never attempted it myself. I used the tint remover as well (lots of it).

Find someone who has the chemical steamer-type device...forgot what it is called. They spray it on, wait ten minutes or so, and the tint slides right off. It costs about $50 for just the rear window, but your defroster stays intact for sure.

Thanks I found this online.

I'll let you know how it works!

STEAM AWAY OLD WINDOW TINT IN A JIFFY® Update looks with an updated method. Every professional knows that removing automobile tint can be undeniably irritating. A good tint job is maneuvered in a way that prevents an easy “tint peel-off.” Surprising to some, the use of steam omits the need for razor blades and chemical sprays to remove the tint. With steam, defog lines will not be cut and systems will not be ruined due to poor removal techniques. Jiffy® Steamer has single-handedly solved this tint dilemma by providing a convenient steaming method to remove unwanted tint in a Jiffy!

Steamer worked very well! You have to heat the tinted window then peal away while adding steam. It can be a little hot on the pealing hand. Defroster still works! New tint going on Friday.

The tint shop wanted $150 to remove the old tint with no gaurantee on the defroster. Jiffy steamer $50.00 on Ebay.

I removed mine by wiping alcohol all over it, letting it sit then when it dried it out and lifted it I peeled it right off with no problems at all
