motor build questions?

One of the exhaust valves on cylinder #1 broke off. I am going to rebuild the motor and build it up as I do so. My question is should I get a full set of valves and redo them all or should I just replace the ones that are broke and or messed up? I know I am going to have the heads ported do yal think its worth the money for a whole new set of bigger valves for a street motor?

For all of yal that have build your or any 4.6 up what would be the best rings and bearings to use for a street build? Im looking at building a reliable Dailey driver motor here that will put down some descent numbers. Should I step up and bore the motor over or should I stay STD bore if I can? How would a stroker kit affect reliability? I have heard some say it adds unwanted stress on parts then I have heard others say it doesn’t. Im sure it has to put more stress on parts like the crank and block but it is that much more stress as to effect its "streetabillity"?

Not sure you can bore these blocks out. If you can, it'll just be .010 or .020 over. To really go with a bigger bore, you can have the cylinder liners pressed out and have larger ones pressed in.

Unless you get past about 600 hp, I wouldn't worry about the stock crank. I'd spend the money on a good set of rods and pistons, no matter what.

As for valves, it's up to you. I'd replace them all if it were me. Drop the heads off at a shop that knows their stuff and pick them up ready to go.

If you're going to port the heads, go with all new valves with a slightly larger size. If you have the money, spring for a big-bore kit too. Then decide if you ever want to add boost and set the compression ratio accordingly (ie buy pistons accordingly). With some ported heads, oversized valves, and a big bore kit, you should be able to go 12's NA without much difficulty.

For rings and bearings, just buy high quality stuff. I can't tell you which brand to buy, though, i don't know. Make sure you at least hone the cylinders before you put in new rings (unless you have it bored or a big-bore kit put in).

VT wants 1200 for bigger sleeves (big bore kit) installed (not a DIY at all). http://www.vtengines.com/low_engines_blocks.htm They'll put together your shortblock for $4k, $5k with a stroker crank. http://www.vtengines.com/low_engines_shortblocks.htm If you can swing it, just get a big bore stroker shorblock (VT isn't the only place that does it, just one I know off the top of my head), send your heads to fox lake, pick up a hot set of cams, and you'll be making some serious HP.

As for stroker vs. non-stroker, stroker will mean lower RPM's but more torque. It will put more stress on rods and bearings at a given RPM (hence lower redline). If you stay standard bore, with good internals, you can rev the piss out of it and make a lot of power, but less torque. The increased displacement with a stroker kit does increase hp also, though. It's really a tossup, it depends what you like.

i already have a good set of H-beam rods inhand for the build. stage 2 cams should be here shortley as well as comp cams beehive springs and keepers. This motor will be build for N/A so i will probley have the heads shaved when i get them worked over. i can get my hands on a complete nitrous kit for a desent price so i have been looking at going that route. so im going either N/A on maby like a 125 or 150 shot of the cold stuff. i already have a bottle and most of the lines to make it happen with a dry kit so all i need is the wet part of it.

Don't shave the heads or deck the block on an OHC engine, unless you absolutely have to due to a minor warpage issue.

Taking material off those surfaces will affect cam chain tension and valve timing.

Increase the compression with a piston change.

true i forgot about the whole cam chain deal but porting is still inorder. what pistons should i be looking at i know i want forged for nitrous but thats about all i know. is any brand any better than anyother? what are the pros and cons of the differnt ring set ups. overl apping vs non over lapping, steel vs iron ect...? im pretty sure i want over lapping rings for nitrous right? i will be looking at about a 175 shot or the juce in 2 stages.
