At least it was parked outside

That sucks. Thanks for the link Paul, I sent it to Hubby who continues to use his cruise control since the car hasn't gone up in flames yet.... dumbass.

I thought there had only been a very few fires reported and that a lot of the cars recalled, especially the Late to mid 90's have yet to have a fire reported on them. Am I crazy?

I remember seeing something a while back (long while back) about a Mark VIII that burned up.

I think I finally got hubby's attention.

A mark about a year ago went up for sure from this. At first it was assumed it was the air-ride compressor. Turned out to be the switch after some investigating. I am not sure on this, but I think it was in his garage. He had photos, but I can not recall who it was.

This problem occurred to about 25 - 30 cars of the 100,000 makes/models made (for the recall part). Probably a factory defect that if not happened to us yet, then probably wont happen. Im not saying it still cant happen, especially if that part has over 100k + miles on it.

For me, the car literally NEVER leaves my sight, I would go get it done but the wait IS STILL BACKED UP ! And i cant dedicate a day 2 weeks advance. As I use the car every day. Is there a replacement yet? Last I heard they still just unplug it. (Gay). If so, how do I do this?

Check engine light came on yesterday. I wonder what it is, car still seams to run fine.

Recall on the Recall

Recall on the Recall

Just read on another site that there is a recall on the recall for the cruise control. Seems the fuse is on the wrong side of the load. I'll try to find the notice later.

That will teach me to read ahead. There is another thread already on this. Down a couple of lines.

I received a letter a week ago, stating the parts were in. I stopped by the dealership Friday 2/29, and was told "all that means is that somewhere in the US, the parts are at a dealership. The big dealerships get theirs first". I was also told that the recall has been changed, and now involves another part connected to what was unhooked, and that I would receive another letter. The next expected "parts are in" letter is approximately 3/10. Also, the repair is expected to take 30-60 minutes now, instead of the 5 minutes to unplug it before. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be driving to Carlisle in June without cruise control; THANKS, FORD!

I'm scheduled to have mine installed on Monday (March 10). They know I'm waiting for it...will let ya'll know how long it took.

I had it done on my navigator. they unplugged it first, and I plugged it back in as soon as I left the dealership (if I didn't want cruise control, i'd have bought a car without cruise control). Eventually they got the "parts" in and fixed it the right way.

All they do is put a fuse in line with the switch. If it shorts, the fuse blows. The only other part they could realistically replace is the switch itself, and I don't see that happening (cost) unless it's actually bad.

The "part" they speak of is a fuse holder with connectors on it so they can plug it in in about 2 minutes.

Why this whole recall thing has taken so long on ford's end is beyond me.

I went in this AM at 8AM - I was driving away at 9. Gave me time to read a mag and have a cup of coffee - which was brewed fresh for me...no one else was in waiting room. Of course, they had to do the complete "safety check" and the service writer came in and told me my Mark had nothing wrong!! Checked the cruise control on way home, worked fine...and so did the icon that showed I had the cruise "ON".

Since you have had yours done - Do you know where this pressure switch is located?
I had the recall done on my F150 and the switch is located right at the master cylinder in plain view. I don't see it on the Mark.
I e-mailed one of the Ford dealers this morning and they checked at parts. They do have the parts and I will have it done next week. They said they would need the Mark for 1-1 1/2 hours. I will go out today and see if I can physically locate the switch so I can check on their work.

Ya know...after I brought it home, I opened the hood and looked --- but I sure couldn't see anything "new" in there anywhere!!! I checked again today around the brake master cylinder and didn't see it there.... But I really didn't know what I was looking for either........After reading above again, it's probably NOT under the hood...it's prob under the dash...somewhere between fuse panel and multi-function switch.

Ya
After posting this am I think I found it in the CD manual.
Never found it on car, but sounds like it needs to be in the air.
Not sure, but this should be the rascal.

That MAY be the pressure switch, but they didn't replace that...they simply put a fuse in line with the power TO it.....

They replaced the switch and added the fuse link to mine. The cruise worked fine before and after, so I'm unsure why the switch was replaced or if it was part of the recall. I wasn't charged, so I don't care either way.
