lowering

I want to lower my Mark; I know there are many ways to lowering it. What method of lowering are you guys using and how happy are you with it. The Adjustable Control module will it still lower the cars further at the 56mph mark. Should I just reposition the bracket for the sensors and call it a day?

I went with the least accepted way.. I replaced the air ride system with coils and used the 1 1/2" lowering kit.

I'm glad I didn't go with wider tires on the 18" rims or I wouldn't have been able to use them. That kit slammed it down.

But.. I like the ride.. I feel more connected to the road now.

Doing this replacement is not for everyone! If you like the ride on your Mark.. don't do this. It will definately change the feel of the car.

The module is the best method really. The system stays active, still auto levels and lowers on the highway at 45 and 55. Its just "tricks" the computer into thinking the ride height is off and thus it adjusts it. Since its fully active you can adjust on the fly. For example I may have is almost slammed in town, but if I get on the highway I may want to adjust up a bit so I am not scrapping bottom when it drops!

Of course adjusting the sensors costs nothing and is pretty easy to do. There are tech articles to do this, I though here but dont see it.

Depending how low you go.. I lowered mine 1.5" to 2" measured top of tire to fender... No real change in ride that I can recall. I have heard that Camber adjustment may be thrown off some tho...

I sensor lowered the '93 and later installed the ASHAM8 module. I like the ability to adjust the ride height on the fly.

NOW on the sensor adjustment method. Do you just adjust the sensor arm the exact distance you want the car lowered or is there a curve to the adjustment meaning if I move the arm 1inch the car will lower 1 inch OR to lower the car 1 inch you move the arm 1/2 inch ETC.

It not quite inch for an inch. Like steve you have to just try and try. I found it best to do it with the key in the on position. Then just open and close the doors a lot to get the system to trigger a leveling.

Note: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN! Those buggers need to be snug but you can bust the ball studs easily. There is VERY little stress on these, they are just sensors.

I think I recall it being about 1/4" on the sensor for 1" lowering of the car.

Tip - lower the rear first. I found it the hardest, so it will be easier to match the rear with the front adjustments rather than trying to match the front with the rear adjustment.

On a second generation, for the front, if you just remove the bracket by removing the 2 bolts and move it upwards until you can align the bottom hole in the bracket, with the top hole in the frame and rebolt it in that position you should end up with about 1 finger clearance between the top of the tire and the lip of the wheelwell at PARKED HEIGHT. For the rear, remove the bottom bolt entirely and move the the bracket half way up on the upper bolt. This should nearly level the car. Then you can use the ball adjustment for trimming the height to your preferred height. Be careful the rear is pretty sensitive.

thats what i did, but it slammed the mark pretty much all the way. so i had to adjust from there

Once the car is lowered if should have all 4 wheels realigned, the back too since it has a camber as well?

Yes, get a four wheel alignment done and make sure the car is at the lowered 'parked' height. I usually double check and turn off the suspension so they do not forget.

I got the new front strut/bags in and while I was working on it I went ahead and did the sensor adjustment to lower the car. WOHO it looks good. Now I need 18s to ride on.

Im still confused on how to get the car be level? When you move the sensor don't you have to drill a new hole to mount it back up? If you do that and you go to high or low then you will have to drill another hole?

There's a SLOT behind the sensor for slight adjustments.....

Ohhhhh I was reading the HOW TO and it said you had to drill thats where the confusion came in. Thanks, when I figure out how to replace my lower control arms I may give this a try as well.
