Transmission problem

My tranny is trying to not shift into 2 gear. If I baby it, it will slide into 2 gear and then the other shifts are fine.

I just did the new 1-2 accumulator, new springs, Mercon V tranny fluid less than 20k ago. Could it need a new one again or is it time to get it rebuilt for racing? I need to know before I try to install a Transgo shift kit into a broke tranny!

Is it a '98 tranny?? If not, I wouldn't spend any more money on it....

Usually the 3/4 shift fails...

Did you use ford parts and did you leave out any springs?

What year Mark VIII is it... how many miles on the transmission?

I wouldn't put a transgo kit in any transmission as per Jerry's Thesis.

When my trans started acting goofy I could have
1. thrown money at a crappy trans
2. purchase a 98 trans and go on with life.

I chose option 2.
I got a good deal on a used 98 trans with 25K on it...was less than 400.00.

I too, decided to purchase a used '98 tranny instead of putting any money in my '97. Have yet to put it in tho. I knew the time was coming and the price was right.

That is what I want to do then...can/would you suggest one install the Transgo into the 1998 tranny?

No do not do a transgo kit. Either do a J-Mod yourself or get the seperator plate already pre drilled from Blue Oval Chips. Or don't bother doing any of that and just get the tranny tuned with a chip.

How long to you want that trans to last? I just talked with someone on the phone that just recently had Jerry dyno tune his car. When he told J that he had a Trans-Go kit and asked him how long did he think it would last, J told him not long. Guess what, it didn't get tuned since the Trans gave out on them on the dyno.

I've had more customers come to me after their Trans failed telling me they should have listened than I can remember.

As for you shift problem, have you tried replacing the MLPS yet?
